This too displays a markedly cool nose featuring notes of red pinot, dark currant, floral and an exuberant spiciness that are trimmed in a discreet application of wood. There is good vibrancy and excellent delineation to the highly seductive flavors that deliver very fine length on the silky and velvet-textured finale. Like its 2015 counterpart this is a bold, serious and robust RSV that is clearly built-to-age and is going to need plenty of it. To be sure, this is excellent but it is not cut from the same "grace and lace" cloth as most examples of the appellation.
