"Altitude, clones, living soil, healthy farming; hence bright fruit and vivacity. “Aromatic lift in pinot noir, tension in the palate. It can be just fruit purity from our context, and not whole bunches”, says Michael Dhillon of use of whole bunches. Maybe 5% used here, but zero in cooler years. There ya go. When I was gifted a few bottles to take away from the new release tasting, this is one of those I took for its pure, visceral pleasure.
Very aromatic, white pepper, pickled guindilla peppers, tart cherry, black plum, green olive, sweet earth and some faint clove. Beautiful characters. The palate somewhat sinewy, grippy with silty tannins and saline minerality, and an echo of the characters of the bouquet. Almost an Italianate feel to the wine, curiously, and wonderfully so. A bit of a wild streak to the wine, pleasingly so. A striking mesh of fruit and savoury. Stunner."
