Dominique Lafon recognised the potential of the Maconnais long before it was fashionable to look south, and spent years quietly scouting vineyards there before acting on it. In 1999, he established Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon, centred on the village of Milly-Lamartine, becoming the first of the Cote d'Or's top producers to invest in the region. Domaine Leflaive followed several years later.

Lafon entrusts the day-to-day winemaking to Caroline Gon, who has run the estate under his mentorship since the beginning, applying the same meticulous methods used for the Domaine's Meursault bottlings.

The result is Maconnais Chardonnay that stands up to its counterparts in Meursault and the Cote de Beaune, wines with real freshness and depth, at a fraction of the price.

A generous and fresh example of Macon Chardonnay. The Village cuvee is a blend of fruit sourced from domaine vines across the region with 6 months elevage on fine lees before bottling. Straightforward and satisfying.

Pale in colour again, but this time with a stricter, more electric nose. Well-judged ripeness, white fruit with apples and a few pears. Very well balanced and more persistent than Prissé.

Pale lemon, and also a citrus note from this cooler spot, where the crop held up rather better than elsewhere. Some fresh plums on the palate, a lean but lengthy white fruit, with a satisfying finish.

Pouilly-Fuisse is the most complete of the Maconnais appellations and this a superb example at that. Always a step up in intensity and depth, the 2024 offers layers of orchard fruits, citrus and a sea spray minerality carrying through the finish. It's Maconnais but with a Cote d'Or sensibility.

Dominique Lafon is one of Burgundy's finest winemakers. He built that reputation at Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault, and at Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon he brings the same rigor to the Maconnais.

Caroline Gon has been head winemaker at Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon since Dominique planted the estate in 1999. Under the mentorship of Lafon, she brings an attention to detail to the Maconnais wines that would be squarely at home in the Domaine's Meursault bottlings.
