The 2018 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Im Laychen Grosses Gewächs Réserve Alte Reben is a late release. The wine is from the oldest parcel Loosen owns on this site. It has been owned by the Loosens since 1911. The wine spent two years on lees in Fuder and four years in bottle before release. Notions of juicy, fine, tart apple blend with exquisitely aromatic lime and lemon oil against a backdrop of cool slate and the merest echo of freshly toasted white bread and slight smoke. The longer it breathes, the more lifted and aromatic it gets. The palate is like a balm – serene, limpid and concentrated, with the inherent elegance of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr and its statuesque structure and inherent serenity. Both the slenderness and freshness are
astonishing for the hot 2018 summer and so surprisingly youthful and long with that citrus elegance. Wow. 96 points. Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous
