Rivar and Timo Mayer are an acclaimed father-son duo of Bloody Hill Vineyard in the Yarra Valley. Timo Mayer, known for his adventurous, hands-off winemaking and German heritage, has long been a pioneer in the region’s boutique wine scene. For years, Timo’s bold personality and reputation have shaped Bloody Hill's identity.

In recent vintages, however, Rivar Mayer has steadily stepped out from his father’s considerable shadow. Bringing fresh ideas and a confident vision, Rivar has taken on more responsibility in both the vineyard and winery, steering Bloody Hill into a new era. His approach respects the legacy Timo established, but Rivar’s own creativity and drive are now shaping the wines and the winery's direction.

"Juicy with a strong clatter of brine and chalkiness, gingery spice underlaid in tart, green apple, tonic/mineral water, just-ripe peach and just-ripe pineapple. Crispness and freshness then with light to medium weight depth. Excellent persistence and sense of vitality. Very tight and racy, if not skeletal. Very true to style of the producer."

"Sour cherry, a lick of cranberry, raspberry coulis, rose water, squished wild strawberries, some faint nougat and green pepper corn notes. Crisp edges for the squishier textural elements, a cool, peppery, herbal finish. A few rungs up the ladder from rose, really, and good for it."
