The Exceptional Domaine Robert Chevillon

by Hugh French | May 31, 2022

2019 Domaine Robert Chevillon

"With such an enviable array or Premier Crus at his disposal, it is no wonder that this address produces some of the appellations most exceptional wines...in my opinion they represent great value..."
Neil Martin, Wine Advocate

The Chevillon family have been growing grapes and making wines in Nuits-St.-Georges for four generations. Despite only having 13 hectares of land, they are one of the most significant holders of Premier Cru sites within the village. The wines have fantastic depth, persistent structure and incredible purity of fruit.

The 2019 Burgundy vintage has seen Chevillon produce outstanding wines of tremendous energy and fruit character, making them very approachable on release. Despite this and as per the style for which Chevillon is known, the wines produced in 2019 show incredible balance holding them in good stead for medium to long term ageing. With this in mind, make sure to see the link below to browse our entire range of current and back vintage wines from this prestigious domaine.

2019 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain
Usually $73 - Special Offer $68

"The wine has more purple nuances at birth. Its colour is often fairly intense. Its aromas are fruity, fresh and not very tannic. Good vivacity, discreetly mellow. Drink young, keeps well for 2 or 3 years. Develops woody, game and eau-de-vie cherry aromas."
Winery Notes

2019 Bourgogne Rouge
Usually $115 - Special Offer $109

"A subtle but not imperceptible dollop of wood surrounds the super-fresh aromas of red and blue pinot fruit that is trimmed in hints of earth and underbrush. There is outstandingly density to the appealingly textured middle weight flavors that terminate in a robust and powerful but not really rustic finale. This is a terrific Bourgogne." Outstanding, Top value.

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges V.V
Usually $205 - Special Offer $195

"Dense aromas of black cherry, plum, earth and whiffs of wood and the sauvage give way to sleek, delicious and detailed flavors that are finer but not denser, all wrapped in an equally attractively textured finish that is more structured. This too is very good for its level plus it should reward up to a decade of cellaring." Outstanding.

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Bousselots'
Usually $259 - Special Offer $249

"A more restrained and earthier nose displays more discreet oak on the ripe plum, dark cherry and newly turned earth scents. There is a beguiling sense of verve and underlying tension to the reasonably refined flavors that are shaped by firmer tannins on the lingering finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than it usually is. Good stuff with excellent development potential." Outstanding.
91-93 Points

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Roncieres'
Usually $259- Special Offer $249

"A cooler and equally reserved nose features shy notes of various red berries that are cut with hints of wild black currant, spice and violet whiffs. There is excellent energy and a relatively sophisticated texture to the medium-bodied flavors that flash a taut muscularity on the dusty, serious and youthfully austere finish that displays terrific depth and persistence. Excellent and very promising." Outstanding.

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Chaignots'
Usually $305 - Special Offer $295

"Here too there is just enough wood influence to mention framing the much spicier blend of red currant and dark cherry. The sleeker and more refined medium-bodied flavors possess even better detail and verve on the lingering if mildly toasty finish."
90-92 Points
Allen Meadows, Burghound

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Perrieres'
Usually $305 - Special Offer $295

"This too is aromatically cool and elegant with its pretty array of slightly more elegant essence of ripe red berry fruit aromas that reflects hints of spice, earth and wood. The succulent but decidedly punchy medium weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the beautifully well-delineated, powerful and serious finale. Patience absolutely required." Outstanding.

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Pruliers'
Usually $309 - Special Offer $299

"Interestingly, this possess a similar fruit profile though with decidedly more earth and sauvage characters suffusing it. There is excellent mid-palate density to the powerful and muscular big-bodied flavors that culminate in a powerful, austere and even more serious finale." Sweet spot, Outstanding.

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Cailles'
Usually $369 - Special Offer $354

"A much spicier nose is cooler and more elegant with its beautifully pure and layered mix of both red and blue pinot fruit compote along with perfumed floral nuances. The vibrant and delineated medium-bodied flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel while displaying abundant mineral influence on the rich, sappy and focused finale that just goes on and on. This is a knockout and should age and improve effortlessly for the better part of two decades." Don't miss! Outstanding.

2019 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Vaucrains'
Usually $369 - Special Offer $354

"A brooding and equally reticent nose possesses more deeply pitched aromas of plum and black cherry liqueur laced with plenty of spice, earth and humus influences. The broad-shouldered, powerful and overtly muscular flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm tannic spine shaping the hugely long and remarkably complex finale. As is usually the case, this is no model of refinement, but this too is a genuine 'wow' wine, provided you have the wherewithal to cellar it for the 20+ years it's going to need. Even if you don't, it's still a most impressive force of nature!" Don't miss! Outstanding.
