Pierre-Yves Colin is the eldest son of the famed Marc Colin. After working as the winemaker at his father’s domaine from 1994 to 2005, he established his own domaine from family vineyards he inherited from his family. Since that time, he has rapidly become a star in the Côte de Beaune and is now considered one of Burgundy’s top producers. His choice to use larger demi-muid barrels and eschew the use of battonnage makes each one of his bottlings a clear expression of its terroir and a study in mineral-driven Chardonnay. As scary as it may seem, with each new vintage, his wines seem to get better and better. This is not only one of the top domaines in Chassagne, this is one of the greatest winemakers and domaines in the world.

2023 Bourgogne Aligote

"Coming from 25% located in Chassagne Montrachet lower slopes and 75% from a parcel in Hautes Côtes de Beaune – 45+ yo vines of a type with a slightly rosé skin Aligote d’Oree. Aged in 350 l barrels for 14 months then 3 months in stainless steel tank before bottling unfined and unfiltered in February 2025. Natural yeast ferment. The only wine with full malo in the range. A stunning success in 2023 vintage with crystalline precision and great energy. Intense vibrant and super fine with great length and persistence. Showing exceptionally well in the 2023 vintage this combines the richness and depth from vines located on richer clay soil in Chassagne together with the freshness and acidity and cut from younger vines located high on the Hautes Cotes which have more limestone together with a good amount of clay."

"Made with a predominance of fruit from below Chassagne. Pale colour, clean and clear, fresh and chiselled, a lemony aspect, already a bit reductive. Good length, very much PYCM style. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Oct 2024."

"These are mostly from young vines, planted with high quality material in 2015 and 2018 along with a few 40 year old vines. A fine glowing lemon and lime colour. There is more bouquet here, picked later of course, 7-9 September, with classic Colin-Morey tension, more than reduction, yet ripe enough fruit and a sense of vibrancy. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Oct 2024."

"There was some hail here, so lower yields. More lime than lemon in colour, with a fresh apple fruit to the nose, perhaps some greengage behind, stylish and with good length. Fine tension, still some edges to smooth out, but this should be good. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Oct 2024."

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru 'La Boudriotte'

"One plot is in Boudriotte itself and one in Fairendes, vinified together. The Fairendes component is older with very small grapes, so this was vinified as whole bunches, added into the fermentation vat in layers alternating with the destemmed fruit. A deeper more robust purple, a clear heady raspberry fruit, still with lees in suspension, and a tannin or two. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Oct 2024."

2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge

"From vines located just below the village in Les Chenes, Les Pierres, and Les Chambres. Made with 35% whole bunch and bottled in November after 12 months ageing in barrel to capture the freshness. Pale in colour this shows a very fresh and bright aspect with lifted aromatics hinting at cranberry. Super fine tannins and bright crunchy fruit with more depth and stuffing than the Santenay. Serious, yet so approachable already"

IMPORTER NOTES

"Three plots. A little bit troubled but a slightly deeper crimson in any case. A respectable fruit weight despite the deliberate lightness of style, the tannins are present but not rustic, and the fruit flows well behind. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted Oct 2024."
