Michael Downer formally trained as a winemaker at Adelaide University. After studying Oenology, he toured the world's great wine regions with harvest experience in Adelaide Hills, Barolo, Italy, Great Western, and Victoria. Michael then returned to the Adelaide Hills to lead the winemaking at Murdoch Hill. His approach is to make wines that are honest to their origins and to express creativity.

“Woody spice, clove and cinnamon spice, pickled cherries and some liquorice notes. Fine, silty tannins in a sheath here too. Savoury as, dusty in a way, autumnal dried leaf and truffley kind of pinot noir. Serious stuff.”
