Murdoch Hill

Michael formally trained as a winemaker at Adelaide University. After studying Oenology he toured the great wine regions of the world with harvest experience in Adelaide Hills, Barolo, Italy, Great Western, Victoria. Michael then came home to the Adelaide Hills to lead the winemaking at Murdoch Hill. His approach is to make wines that are honest to their origins and to express creativity.

I simply wanted to come home and make wine that shows a sense of place, something that is embedded in the European wine culture. This required moving in a more minimalistic winemaking approach utilising wild yeasts, gentle extraction techniques, reducing additions to show the purity of fruit, overall I wanted to make delicious drinkable wine styles that are”

2021 The Tilbury Chardonnay
Usually $49 - Special Offer $44

"This has impressive power, with such refined and focused structure on offer. Aromas of wet stones and lemon peel with grapefruit pith and sliced peach, as well as hazelnut. The palate is chiseled and long, filling out through the mid section and then building a smooth, creamy texture into the finish. Plenty of peach and nectarine, as well as lemon fruit flavor here. A little hazelnut to close. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

2021 Chardonnay
Usually $30 - Special Offer $27

"A very good chardonnay producer, overall. Take a look.

It’s flinty and fresh, minerally and waxy and chalky, bolstered on rails of lemon-limey acidity following the crunch of green apple and this underlying hazelnut nuttiness through the whole thing. It feels pretty darn serious, actually, and has drinkability writ large. Lovely stuff, toothsome and moreish. Kudos again, Murdoch Hillians."

2021 The Phaeton Pinot Noir
Usually $49 - Special Offer $44

"This is an alluringly fragrant, complex and spicy pinot that offers such intense red cherries, raspberries, strawberries and red plums, framed in light, bunchy tones. Some white pepper and freshly picked herbs, too. Young and vibrant palate that has finely detailed tannins and a succulent, energetic feel in the mouth. Bright, small red fruit lights the finish. Very drinkable already. Screw cap."

2021 Pinot Noir
Usually $30 - Special Offer $27

"Spicy, flinty, minerally pinot noir. Light weight, spreads nicely in the palate, soft, dark cherry fruited, a little dark chocolate, some twiggy woody notes and a bit of turned earth. Beautiful texture. Will stutter on that, beautiful. Delicious drinking."
