Gramenon is one of the great properties in the Southern Rhone. The winery takes some finding, though, and this is perhaps the first indication of the exclusivity and elusiveness of its wines. These wines are impossible to track down. The winery and cellar are located in a remote area of the Drôme, in the small town of Montbrison-sur-Lez. The farmhouse and cellars are surrounded by rolling hills of vineyards and olive groves. It is truly an incredible place; very relaxing, very serene.
Gramenon has become famous over the past 25 or so years because of the talent and dedicated work of firstly Philippe Laurent, then Michelle and now Michelle and Maxime.
They produce wines with hallmarks of great finesse, grace, perfume and depth – not usually words one would use to describe Grenache from the Southern Rhône, but then these are certainly no ordinary wines and undoubtedly incomparable with any other Côtes du Rhône!

2020 Domaine Gramenon Cotes-du-Rhone 'La Belle Sortie'

A newcomer to the Gramenon stable and, as mentioned above, it comes from a vineyard in Taulignan that they purchased in 2019. It is made with 80% Grenache from the new vineyard blended with 20% Syrah from the Gramenon estate. The additionof Syrah has given the wine a darker, more mystic aroma and has added a shade of garnet to the colour too. The qualityof this new vineyard is evident in the wines superb pitch; it has great vibrancyand is full of charming and attractive aromas and flavours, this is a Gramenon wine and it shows. Les weight and density than the "L'Elementaire" and "Les Laurentides" but it makes up for that with it's elan. A great new addition to the Gramenon range!

2020 Domaine Gramenon Cotes-du-Rhone 'Poignee de Raisins'

One of my absolute favourite wines to drink. A sensual and joyous blend of Grenache with a dash of Cinsault. The name translates to 'a fistful of grapes' and is produced from the younger vines on the original Gramenon estate. Here we have a red Côtes du Rhône that is refreshing, invigorating and very moreish. Even brighter and more lifted than normal it is especially silky, lithe and most of all, delicious. So many try to make this style of wine and yet there is nothing like this; we never get as much as we want of this very popular wine so be quick!

2020 Domaine Gramenon Cotes-du-Rhone 'Sierra du Sud'

My dream of Syrah; this is produced entirely from old (65 year old) vines from the Gramenon estate and delivers pure, billowing aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, violet, lightly seared meat and gravel. Plush and velvety in the mouth, it has sensual tannins and lively acidity that give it a super definition, shape and long finish. This is one of my favourite wines of anywhere every single year and I am assured by Michele we have another absolute beauty in 2020.
