New 2020 Chablis

Finally, we're starting to see 2020 Chablis hit our shores, and today we are pleased to offer two of our favourite producers - Christophe et Fils and Domaine Christian Moreau.

Early reports on the 2020 Chablis vintage indicate superb, classically styled wines despite the challenging conditions for growers throughout the year. The mild Winter and almost drought-like Summer placed immense strain on the vines, slowing ripening and resulting in minimal yields. We'll be trying to get our hands on as much 2020 Chablis as we can, and we suggest you do too.

Christophe et Fils

As a man Sebastien is energetic and quizzical, perhaps even restless but it is easy to see he has that special 'je ne sais quoi' found in all the best winemakers. Every aspect of his viticulture and vinification is thought out and effected with precision. There is nuance and fine detail in his wines that pleases the toughest connoisseurs and they are nicely concentrated thanks to Sebastien's understanding of the importance of low yields.

After time in the glass, the wine’s class begins to emerge and it's saline, citrus and geological qualities build. This is flat out terrific Chablis from Sébastien Christophe.

Fabien Moreau has taken these wines to ever-higher levels of precision in recent years by fine-tuning harvest dates, oak regimes and bottling times... This estate was certified as organic by Ecocert as of the 2013 vintage.

A mildly fruity nose reflects additional notes of quinine, citrus and ocean breeze. The racy and nicely detailed medium weight flavors that flash a touch of youthful austerity on the refreshing medium dry finale. This should drink well relatively early on.

Here too the nose is exuberantly fruity while displaying background hints of lemon rind, white flower, brine and algae. There is a lovely texture to the utterly delicious middle weight flavors that exhibit good length on the slightly more tightly wound finale. This does need to develop more depth but that should occur over the next 2 to 3 years.
