The Hommage 1921 is Hugot's tribute to his grandfather Martial Roger Hugot, and it is built from the parcels he inherited from him. The terroirs span both sides of Epernay, Chardonnay from the town itself and Pinot Noir and Meunier from Chavot and Brugny to the south, a broader canvas than the single-village Grand Cru cuvees and a more personal one. Vinification splits between foudre and amphore, the foudre adds greater depth and generosity, the amphore contributing texture and a softness of fruit unobscured by any vessel influence.
