Giuseppe Quintarelli established one of Veneto’s most respected wine estates over a career spanning more than sixty years. Located in the hills north of Verona in Valpolicella, the family winery has long been recognised for wines of balance, depth and longevity rather than scale or modern stylistic fashion. Following Giuseppe’s passing, the estate remains in family hands, guided by his daughter Fiorenza, her husband Giampaolo and their sons Francesco and Lorenzo, who continue to uphold the disciplined approach that defined his work.
The Quintarelli philosophy is grounded in careful vineyard selection, traditional methods and a refusal to rush any stage of production. Fruit is handled entirely by hand, vinified with minimal intervention and matured slowly in large oak casks before extended bottle ageing. Releases are determined by readiness rather than timetable, resulting in wines that favour structure, nuance and long-term development over immediate appeal. Traditional techniques such as appassimento remain central to many wines, used judiciously to build concentration and texture while retaining balance.
The 2018 growing season in Valpolicella reflects this measured approach particularly well. A generally warm year, moderated by periods of rainfall through spring and summer, allowed for good ripeness while preserving natural acidity across many sites. Wines from the vintage tend to show generous fruit expression supported by freshness and structural clarity, making them approachable earlier than some years but still well suited to ageing. Very classical in nature, these conditions were ideal for producing wines closely aligned with the Quintarelli.
Across the range, Quintarelli wines are valued not for overt power, but for consistency, proportion and their ability to evolve gracefully over time. They remain among the most distinctive and reliable expressions of Valpolicella, shaped by experience, patience and an unwavering commitment to quality.
