"It shall be written that the 2017 vintage of Wendouree wines is of glassy acidity. And lo, it was spoken. I’ve tasted the shiraz trio and GW’s blanket commentary rings true. That being said, I might just make a guess (my wines are yet to arrive, but credit card was hit a week ago I see now), based on GW cabernet-based reviews, that the next lore of 2017 is ‘it’s a shiraz vintage’. And this, the best of the trio.
A clean and well-defined expression offering up some of that Wendouree ‘Aussie bush’ character, lashings of pastille and black jelly beans, faint black olive and clean earth. There’s some flesh here, grunt, more of the clean earthiness, some more of the brambly-undergrowth of the bouquet, a web of building pucker from the amaro-spiked tannin weave. This has a wild edge, succulence, persistence and yet a coolness. It feels like one for digging out when your remaining hair is at its dusty-greyest."
