2019 Petit Chablis

This comes from a little plot on kimmeridgian, soil above 1er cru Vaillons. There is, something of a green tint to the colour. A little bit of almond paste on the nose, then an exceptional weight of fruit, pink grapefruit with a touch of sucrosity, amazing volume of fruit for a petit chablis. I am impressed. Zestful and mouthfilling.

Smoky notes of mineral reduction, citrus rind and sea breeze introduce rich and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess excellent punch that also characterizes the clean, dry and citrusy finale. This too is very good for its level.

Domaine Bernard Defaix is a highly-rated family estate based in Milly, with the vines for this bottling averaging 30 years age. Ten months lees ageing adds to the complexity on both the nose and palate. Refined, classy and complex characters on show here, which meld beautifully with the ripe peachy fruit notes. A very fine, expressive, distinctive Chablis which is ready to drink now but will age very well for many years.

Pale lemon colour. Bring on the white stones. A little touch of seaweed, this has tightened up in bottle says Didier. I really like this. Brilliantly racy, ripe enough fruit of course but the terroirs is shining through giving the dry saline finish after white fruit.

Domaine Jaeger-Defaix
For those new to this fine grower, Jaeger-Defaix is the family Domaine of Hélène Defaix, wife of Didier Defaix (of Chablis producer Domaine Bernard Defaix). Most of the Jaeger-Defaix vineyards are premier cru and brilliantly situated. All the vineyards are managed organically. Given the family connection, it won’t surprise you to hear that the 4.5 hectare Domaine is run in the same earth-to-glass spirit as Didier’s family Estate in Chablis. The connection to the land here is strong, and goes back three generations; the great-grandfather of Hélène, Henri Niepce, was instrumental in achieving and promoting Rully's AOC status in the 1930s.

2018 Rully Blanc 1er Cru 'Lex Cloux'

A smoky broad-ranging nose is comprised by notes of mineral reduction, spiced apple, lemon zest and a hint of herbal tea, all of which is trimmed in relatively generous wood. The sleek and nicely detailed medium weight flavors possess more refinement on the citrusy and slightly firmer finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. I very much like the texture, and this is altogether lovely - worth checking out. Outstanding.
