Buy Now - New Releases From Garagiste

Anyone with even a passing interest in cool-climate Australia will already know that Garagiste is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s brightest rising stars. Barnaby Flanders created the Garagiste label following his amicable split with Allies co-founder David Chapman (who continues with the Allies label). ‘Barney’ now focuses on a snug range of small-batch wines from fruit sourced from the highly prized Merricks Grove vineyard, the Silverwood vineyard (Balnarring), and the Hugh Robinson vineyard in Moorooduc. Garagiste, the main label, is ably supported by delicious entry-level wines under the Le Stagiaire banner.

2019 Le Stagiaire Chardonnay
Usually $31 - Special Offer $27

All fruit was hand-sorted in the vineyard and winery, then whole-bunch pressed, with the cloudy juice transferred to a mixture of 500-litre puncheons to ferment wild. The wines were matured on their lees in barrel for eight months before blending. Barney’s wines have gotten finer and finer, and this is a terrific example. Plenty of pulpy fruit (nectarine, peach, citrus pith) but also loads of driven freshness and just enough complexity from the lees. Really first-rate Chard and terrific value to boot.

2018 Le Stagiaire Pinot Noir
Usually $31 - Special Offer $27

Wow, this is a great pinot noir. Has an almost electric pulse. Bright, cranberry and pomegranate fruit, taut and fresh, a web of charry-reductive tannins but so judiciously found. Sinew and pucker, wine drawn long, it’s one for the very elemental and savoury pinot lovers. Complex and compelling wine.
Mike Bennie, The Winefront - 94 Points

2019 Tuerong Aligote
Usually $37 - Special Offer $33

It’s a lovely example and very true to the variety. Expect lovely lemon curd and kernel-like fruit as well as a lick of creamy lees and then some driven, sappy freshness. Great to see this variety perform so well in Australia.

2019 Tuerong Chardonnay
Usually $47 - Special Offer $42

Another wonderful example of Mornington Chardonnay. I was expecting something richer from the harvest but in fact this is an intensely saline, racy, mouth-watering Chardonnay with terrific spice, green apple and tangy, pithy fruit and some malted grain like complexity. The finish is firm and suggests this will be even better with six months in the cellar.

2019  Balnarring Pinot Noir
Usually $47 - Special Offer $42

It’s a complex, sappy Pinot in which juicy red fruits, raspberry and cranberry, beetroot, red rose and fresh mint all play their part—as does some subtle, sweet and spicy oak. The palate is very bright and youthful, containing its fruit nicely with some fine, powdery tannins and good acid line. Overall, this is a very classy, cool and crunchy Pinot with terrific perfume, intensity and spice.
