Domaine Jean Grivot

A legend in Vosne-Romanee and Nuits-Saint-Georges! We have some Village and Premier Crus across various vintages plus three bottles of the stunning 2005 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. These may be the only bottles in the country, be quick or you'll miss out.

2014 Nuits-St.-Georges 'Les Lavieres'
Usually $149 - Special Price $135

The 2014 Nuits St Georges les Lavières was showing just a touch of reduction when I tasted it from cask, though there appeared to be plenty of black fruit underneath. The palate is rounded in the mouth with supple tannin, blueberry and blackcurrant fruit here with a touch of spice, quite dense and assertive towards the finish that perhaps just needs a little more complexity. Drink 2017-2028
Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate- 88-90 Points

2012 Vosne-Romanee 'Bossieres'
Usually $159 - Special Price $145

Here there are no issues with reduction as the fresh, cool and bright nose features notes of softly spicy and ripe red currant, violets and a touch of earth. There is an equally cool mouth feel to the restrained, delineated and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that brim with dry extract on the suave and well-balanced finish. This should drink well young. Drink 2018+
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 53 - 88-90 Points

2012 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru 'Les Rouges'
Usually $319 - Special Price $299

An exuberantly fresh and spicy nose speaks of cool red and dark pinot fruit that is trimmed in hints of sandalwood and anise. There is excellent intensity to the overtly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess a saline character before concluding in a markedly austere and linear finish. This is borderline strict at present and will need a few years to flesh out and add weight. Drink 2020+
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 53 - 89-92 Points

2005 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Usually $549 - Special Price $525

Here the nose is much more deeply pitched with attractively spiced aromas that include iron-infused warm earth notes as well as animale and underbrush hints that lead to delicious, powerful and youthfully austere big-bodied flavors blessed with ample dry extract and a linear, concentrated and driving finish. There is real energy here and while the tannins are a bit brut at the moment, this is actually fairly refined as young Clos de Vougeot typically presents itself. Worth a close look as there is real depth here. Drink 2020+
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 29-94 Points

Domaine Forey Pere et. Fils

Not to be missed!Seldom seen in Australia, we have a small allocation of wines across Village, Premier and Grand Cru levels. These represent terrific value, especially the 2016 Echezaeux Grand Cru.

2016 Vosne-Romanee
Usually $85 - Special Price $79

A fresh, spicy and appealingly layered nose is composed by notes of black currant, violet and a whiff of wood toast. The notably more refined medium weight flavors possess both fine intensity and delineation while exhibiting fine length on the sappy finish. This is very Vosne in style and I particularly like the sleek mouthfeel. A quality Vosne villages. Outstanding.
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 69 - 89-91 Points

2015 Nuits-St.-Georges 1er Cru 'Les St. Georges'
Usually $175 - Special Price $165

There is just enough reduction present to push the ripe mix of earthy dark fruit and underbrush aromas to the background so I would suggest decanting this for half an hour first if you're tempted to try a bottle young. There is ample dry extract on the robust, muscular and intense flavors that display a distinct gaminess on the textured and solidly long and dusty finish that is supported by ripe tannins. This will require at least a decade for this full-boded, rustic and very serious effort to come together. Outstanding.
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 69 - 92 Points

2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Usually $249 - Special Price $229

This too is moderately oaked with notably ripe aromas of wild red berries, newly turned earth, forest floor and a hint of lavender. There is outstanding richness to the overtly powerful, concentrated and mouth coating flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere, backward and ultra-serious finish. I wouldn't even consider opening one of these bad boys before it has at least 10 years of age.
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 69 - 94 Points

2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Usually $249 - Special Price $229

This is actually aromatically similar to the Echézeaux if slightly earthier and not quite as spicy. There is by contrast both more volume and more concentration as well to the bold, robust and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a velvety mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the distinctly firm and even mildly rustic and warm finish that is fashioned in a take-no-prisoners style. This is also potentially excellent but while the Ech could be approached young, this is a Clos de Vougeot that will definitely need extended cellaring.
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 69 - 92-94 Points

2016 Echezeaux Grand Cru
Usually $249 - Special Price $229

Here too there is a touch of reduction that pushes the notes of red currant, cherry, violet and spice elements to the background. There is though good freshness to richer and even more full-bodied flavors that possess outstanding concentration thanks to the abundance of dry extract that coats the palate and buffers the slightly less structured finale that also offers fine length and solid depth.
Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 73 - 92 Points

Hubert Lignier

A real favourite of the team here at MW. There's three village wines across Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-St.-Denis from the excellent 2015 and 2016 vintages. This 9 hectare domaine produce some truly delicious wines, if you haven't discovered them before this is a great chance to!

2016 Morey-St.-Denis
Usually $129 - Special Price $119

Vines planted in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Produced partially from the domaine’s grapes (Chenevery) and partially from purchased grapes (Chenevery, Crais Gillon, Chorvées Gillon). The soils are deeper and composed of clay. They create complete, well-structured wines, which are smooth on the palate. The aromas often include notes of violets and blackcurrants.
Domaine Tasting Note

2015 Gevrey-Chambertin
Usually $139 - Special Price $129

This was somewhat flat in that the nose lacks a bit of freshness to the earth and sauvage-inflected red and dark pinot fruit aromas. Otherwise there is excellent richness to the velvety and caressing medium weight flavors that culminate in a firm and mildly austere finish. This possesses good acidity and thus my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt that the nose will recover its freshness.

Allen Meadows, Burghound Issue 65 - 88-91 Points

2016 Gevrey-Chambertin
Usually $135 - Special Price $125

Vines planted between 1950 and 2002. Purchase of grapes from the “Reniard” and “Epointures” climats. The wines are vinified separately then blended for ageing and the result is a pleasant, deliciously fruity wine. Generous when young, they also have good cellar-ageing potential.
Domaine Tasting Note

Hubert Lamy

Probably best known in Oz for their stunning St.-Aubins (of which we have some to offer), we also have the tighly wound 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Tremblots' V.V.

2016 St.-Aubin 1er Cru 'Derriere Chez Edouard'
Usually $119 - Special Price $109

Pale lemon-yellow color. Slightly reduced, leesy scents of lemon, spices and musky flowers. Dense, ripe and juicy, conveying terrific cut and minerality to its flavors of lemon, orange oil and spices. Doesn't have quite the depth of a great vintage but finishes tactile and chewy, with strong minerality.
Stephen Tanzer, - 89-92 Points

2016 St.-Aubin 1er Cru 'Clos de la Chateniere' V.V.
Usually $149 - Special Price $139

The 2016 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière, which originates from a parcel with a more southerly exposure compared to others farmed by Olivier Lamy, has a clean and precise bouquet with white peach, orange pith and subtle aniseed scents. The palate is very well balanced with more depth and fruit intensity than the Les Frionnes, touches of tangerine and white peach laced with bitter lemon, leading to a harmonious and quite long finish. Excellent.
Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate- 90-92 Points

2016 Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Tremblots' V.V.
Usually $149 - Special Price $139

Pale bright yellow. Aromas of white peach and crushed stone. Sappy, nicely delineated peach fruit is intensified by bracing underlying minerality. Not especially generous or expressive in the early going but energetic and long on the aftertaste. An outstanding village wine in the making.
Stephen Tanzer, - 88-91 Points
